Log Home Maintenance
|
|
This is the most common question in
log home restoration.
Northern Log Home Restoration
feels that logs need annual care and
maintenance. Proper maintenance will
improve the longevity of your finish and
lessen the risks of product failure. We
recommend the following annual

- Cleaning of your logs-we
recommend this twice a year

signs of damage
- Examine potential moisture
issues

any new upward checks ¼ inch or
previous applications aren’t torn or
pulled away
- Gutter systems are in place and
working properly
These recommendations are within the
ability of most homeowners.

How do I keep my log home looking
beautiful for years to come?
This is the most common question in log
home restoration. Northern Log Home
Restoration feels that log homes or
cabins require routine care and
maintenance. By doing proper maintenance
it will improve the longevity of your
finish and lessen the risks of product
failure as well as mildew or fungus
growth.
After a log home or cabin has been
restored or just built we recommend the
cleaning of the logs twice a year,
preferably in the Fall and the Spring.
Dirt, pollen, mildew and other grime
accumulate on the surface of the log.
Removal of these will substantially help
the life of the finish. You should also
check over the entire structure looking
for any contributing factors that can
cause finish failure; including crack or
holes in the chinking/caulking on the
logs and around windows. Insects like
carpenter ants or bees can create holes
in the wood.
Northern Log Home Restoration offers an
Annual Maintenance Program
that will keep your investment looking
beautiful for years to come. For more
